One of the wonders of recorded sound is the possibilities it offers to travel back to moments in history, when recordings were made by superb musicians who are no longer with us. Great singers, conductors, chamber ensembles and instrumentalists can be brought to life however you listen, and in some cases there are even performances by the composer. Recent advances in modern technology have enhanced the experience even further, enabling new remastering techniques that draw out the best possible sound from sources that can be as old as 120 years ago, when recordings were made using wax cylinders, before the electrical age.
