This is a set that takes its seat confidently at the top table; and in places is touched with genius. Underpinning Lim's approach is a playfulness that animates even the most arcane examples of Bach's compositional cunning...a flair-filled release that endlessly probes, illuminates and captivates.

Lim's searching voice and powers of communication always come across in a performance well worth hearing.

Lim’s voicing of parts throughout the work is outstanding, demonstrating a structural understanding which he communicates with unerring musicianship through his skilful control of dynamics, articulation and balance, brought together by an organic sense of phrasing which never fails to hold the attention...This is a treasurable new album from a pianist with much to say.

Those who enjoyed his interpretation at Wigmore Hall will find plenty of the same rewarding elements here, not least the seeming ease with which the 21-year-old pianist untangles the music’s complex web of threads...It will be interesting to hear how Lim’s interpretation of the Goldbergs develops over the years, but this is a fine account to start with.

Humility and warmth marks Lim’s treatment of the opening theme, with the 30 variations offering well over 30 different varieties of colour, texture, emotional shading and rhythmic vitality...Lim’s youthful panache also serves Bach in another way, widening the sense of wonder that all great Goldberg performances need to convey.
